I spotted these flowers growing in front of my neighbors house and decided to photograph them because they were a pretty pop of color among the dirt and green plants. I liked that each flower had a different size and was at a different point in its growth. I tried taking photographs of the flowers from different angles to have them placed in different parts of the frame and take advantage of the background. I am trying to convey the feeling of finding a rare beauty amongst plain objects.
I took these photographs in the Miller Nature Area because the forest was beautifully lit up by the sun, showing its rich green trees. I tried to capture the sun shimmering through the trees, but had a little difficulty with the lighting because the thick trees were blocking some of the sunshine and casting dark shadows on the camera. With these photos, I am trying to convey the feeling of calm and peacefulness that the green forest radiates.
I took these photographs at the little lake in Lillie Park because the trees had started changing into beautiful fall colors, which the lake reflected spectacularly. I chose to take these photos at sunset because at that time the sun was hitting the trees perfectly to emit a warm glow and create a clear reflection in the water. I am trying to convey the warm feelings of fall that are brought to the photographs through the colors of the trees and the sun hitting off them.
These photographs were also taken in the Miller Nature Area forest, but they show a different aspect of the forest, other than the trees. I chose to photograph the moss among the leaves because it reminds me of a soft blanket covering the forest floor and it's right above the entrance to an animal's burrow. I had to decide what I wanted to show in the background of the images, just the ground or the tree trunk behind it, and what angle I wanted to show the moss at. I am trying to convey soft feelings about nature with these photographs because the moss and leaves seem to cushion the ground.
I took these photographs in the Dolph Nature area because I liked the bright, tall grass in murky water, displaying different colors from my other landscape pictures. I focused the second photograph on the rock because it provided a contrasting darker object to the bright grass. It was a little difficult at first trying to get the camera to focus on the right objects. I am trying to convey happy, content feelings with the bright colors and stillness in the photographs.
