These photos are of my ballet slippers that I use in dance class. They are important to me because dance is one of my favorite sports and creative activities. I used the mezzotint filter for this object because I liked the way that it made the ballet slippers look vintage and makes them look more worn, like those of a professional ballerina from the Renaissance period.
These photos show my guitar, which I received as a birthday gift during quarantine because I wanted to learn how to play it during my free time. The guitar is important to me because music is a big part of my life, and this was the first instrument that I chose to learn all by myself. I used the crystallize filter on this object because it contrasts nicely with the first image that shows the strings and body of the guitar clearly, leaving the second image looking fuzzy and making you imagine a different sound coming from that guitar versus the first one.
These images depict a strawberry, which is my favorite fruit. Strawberries mean a lot to me because we have this tradition of going to a farm and picking strawberries with my grandma every time we visit her, so they always remind me of her. I used the mosaic filter on this object because even with the pixelation, you can still tell it's a strawberry from its distinct color and the color of the leaves. I also found that the first image shows the round shape of the strawberry with its details very clear, so I wanted to contrast it with a more blurry, blocky look.
These photos are of a painted jar that I made in an art camp one summer. This jar is important to me because it was made during the time of my first exploration with art, and I'm very proud of the way that the dripping paint turned out. I used the pointillize filter for this object because the form of the jar and the paint is still apparent, but it takes on a more futuristic, fantasy-like appearance, as if the jar is holding something valuable.
These photos depict a theatre rail, which is a commonly used form of construction to build the sets of a theatre production. This object means a lot to me because I built this rail in a technical theatre camp, which was a great learning experience for me. I've been very involved with theatre since middle school, and this shows some of the memories I've kept from each show I've been in. I used the color halftone filter for this object because it creates a sort of screen over the rail, which represents how the rail is always behind the scenes in theatre.
